Financial Assistance and Scholarships

Disclaimer: The information provided here is not exhaustive and is sometimes out of date. We do not take responsibility for information provided by other websites. Students are advised to contact either Jumbunna Indigenous House of Learning staff or the relevant organisations to ensure their information is current and correct. Our staff can assist with information and applications.

Financial Assistance

Financial assistance generally refers to government assistance programs or supplementary assistance from other sources. It can take the form of income support, accommodation or rent assistance, emergency assistance, tutorial assistance (ITAS), student loans etc. Students are encouraged to visit Abstudy, Centrelink, DEST, and our ITAS page for information about eligibility for Commonwealth assistance.

UTS Student Services financial assistance service also offers information, advice and referral to other organisations and can in certain circumstances arrange emergency assistance and small interest-free loans.

Jumbunna Indigenous House of Learning can also provide information, assist or refer students. We encourage students to seek assistance from us if they have financial difficulties or do not have the funds to participate in course-related activities. Students are advised to seek this sort of assistance as early as possible, as finding and applying for funds can take a lot of time.

Scholarships and Prizes

Scholarships are generally awarded on academic merit or on a combination of academic merit and financial need. Prizes are awarded for academic achievement. Students need to be aware of closing dates and plan ahead for applications, which can take some time. Jumbunna Indigenous House of Learning staff disseminate information and reminders throughout the year.
