Who can apply for Jumbunna's Admissions Program?
You can apply to Jumbunna's Admissions program if you are an Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. People applying for entry into Indigenous Block-mode Programs should apply directly to the Faculty of Education the Faculty of Business or the Faculty of Information Technology. There is no age limit.
What if my UAI is low or I don't have a UAI at all?
A Universities Admissions Index (UAI) is not the only criteria for admission to UTS through Jumbunna. Selection of applicants is based on a combination of several factors including previous life, education and work experience and performance in written assessment tasks and an interview.
Interstate year 12 qualifications will be recognised as equivalent to the NSW HSC.
How do I apply to Jumbunna's Admission Program?
You must obtain an application form from Jumbunna or click here for a printable copy. You must also complete a Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) form either on-line or you can purchase a UAC Guide from a newsagency and submit the form inside to UAC with the appropriate payment.
Can I get ABSTUDY?
We are unable to determine your eligibility for ABSTUDY and therefore it is advisable that you check with Centrelink to determine whether you are entitled to receive ABSTUDY or not. For more information see Centrelink's Abstudy website.
ABSTUDY is means tested and, depending on your circumstances Centrelink will advise whether you may or may not be able to get ABSTUDY.
Where can I stay if I move to Sydney to study at UTS?
UTS has limited accommodation and you must apply for accommodation by filling in a form from the UTS Housing Service. Unfortunately UTS Housing Service does not offer accommodation for couples or families. If you will be residing with a partner whilst you are studying, accommodation could be arranged through other housing organisations such as Aboriginal Hostels Limited . How long is the Admissions Program and what is involved?
The Admissions Program is convened over two (2) days and you will be required to attend both days. Each day will have an Assessment Task that you will be required to complete by the end of the day and one of those tasks will be a Faculty specific task eg; a task set by the Faculty of Science if you are applying for a course such as B Science in Biomedical Science in Forensic Science. On the last day you will have an interview with a Faculty Representative and a Jumbunna Staff member after which you will be notified by the University, in writing, if you have been made an offer.
What if I have an interview at another University in Sydney when I am attending the Admissions Program at UTS?
When you have a date and time set with the other university you will need to let the Recruitment and Assessment Officer at Jumbunna know so that arrangements can be made to ensure you complete ALL assessment tasks required at UTS.
If I am accepted into a course, is there any support available?
There are several forms of support available for students at UTS, including tutorial assistance. This is available for most subjects and can be obtained through Jumbunna's ITAS Officer/s. Application forms for tutoring are also available on this website and can be submitted at any time after enrolment.
If I have lectures at the Kuring-gai Campus, how can I get there?
The University of Technology Sydney offers its students and staff a shuttle bus service from the City Campus (bus departs from Level 2 of the Tower Building) to St Leonards and Kuring-gai campuses at various times throughout the day. Go to: www.uts.edu.au/about/mapsdirections/shuttle.html.
