PETITION FOR JUSTICE FOR THE BOWRAVILLE CHILDREN

To the Honourable the Speaker and Members of the

Legislative Assembly of New South Wales.

The Petition of:  JUSTICE FOR THE BOWRAVILLE CHILDREN

Twenty one years ago over a six month period three Aboriginal Children Colleen Walker-Craig, Evelyn Greenup and Clinton Speedy-Duroux were murdered in the small town of Bowraville on the mid north coast of New South Wales.  To date no person has been convicted of these crimes.

Brings to the attention of the House: OUR LOSS OF FAITH IN THE JUSTICE SYSTEM

We the families of the murdered children supported by friends and the community have fought long and hard to find justice for our children.  Despite the numerous setbacks, insults and rejections we have kept faith in the judicial system in the hope that justice would be done.  However after 21 years our patience has run out.

We no longer have any faith in the justice system.  Our faith has been eroded over the years by what appears to be a total lack of interest and empathy in our fight for justice by the decision makers within the legal system and the politicians who were elected to serve us.

We believe we know what happened to our children.  We believe the matters are related, to suggest otherwise is to ignore the circumstances surrounding their murders.  There has been two trials conducted one for the murder of Clinton and one for the murder of Evelyn on both occasions the person was acquitted.     During these trials evidence relating to the other children was excluded.

We do not claim to understand the complexities of the legal system but we do feel if the courts were presented with all of the evidence concerning the three children it would paint a much clearer picture about what happened.  Unfortunately this has never occurred except in a 2004 Coronial hearing where the State Coroner came to the same conclusion.
