Ken Canning is from the Kunja People in south western Queensland who has lived in Sydney since 1979. Ken’ traditional name is Burraga Gutya and he publishes his creative works using his language name.

He is the father of 5 and the grandfather of 4. Ken has worked in student support at Jumbunna on two separate occasions, 1989 to 1996 and 2003 to the present.

He was the first recorded Murri graduate at UTS having finished his degree in Communications in 1887 and graduated in 1988. He has a strong background in political activism and believes that education is vital to our Peoples continuing struggle for equity and justice.

“I enjoy my job immensely. Witnessing victories above all adversity for Indigenous Peoples on a daily basis is inspiring,”he says. “For those studying here, please come a utilise our centre as we have academically sound, strong  people working in support who are totally committed to the whole student body.”
