Sophia has a background in Journalism and International Studies. She came through Jumbunna's Indigenous Admissions Program for entry in 2003 and graduated from UTS in May 2008. She studied Italian and lived in Italy for a year, where she got to meet her Italian relatives for the first time. During her studies she held an NICP cadetship with the Australian Customs Service where she also worked briefly.
